Larr, Serrano Combine For Haines City Shoutout Over Bartow

Brian Larr had a big day all around to lead host Haines City to a 1-0 shutout victory over Bartow on Tuesday night. Larr doubled to right field and scored on an RBI single from Jose Calderon for the game’s only run in the bottom of the first inning. Then the Hornets’ starter tossed six shutout innings to make that slim lead hold up.

Larr scattered two hits and two walks and he struck out five for the Hornets (2-1). Edwin Serrano came on in the seventh and he needed just 11 pitches for a 1-2-3 inning that closed things out. Serrano struck out two to earn the save.

Bartow’s Riley Trout had an equally strong outing in relief of starter Logan Lyle. Lyle struck out five in two innings while allowing an earned run on three hits. Trout took over in the third and allowed a hit and two walks while striking out 10 in four scoreless innings.

Kasey Cribbs and Lyle both had hits for the Yellow Jackets (1-2).
