Ridge Capitalizes On Six-Run Fifth To Down Liberty
Ridge used a big fifth inning and solid pitching by Tyler Bordash to defeat Liberty 7-2 on Tuesday.
Up 1-0, Ridge broke open the tight game in the top of the fifth. Franklin James led off with a single before Andrew Baker was hit by a pitch. Marcus Judd doubled to left field, scoring Judd, and then Melvis Salcedo tripled to bring in Baker and Judd for a 4-0 advantage. Salcedo made it 5-0 with a steal of home. Angelo Irizarry walked and came home two batters later on Cedric King’s sacrifice fly. Roberto Mejia came in on a passed ball to make it 7-0.
The Chargers (2-3) fought back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring twice for the final margin.
Kendall singled in Frese for a 1-0 advantage in the top of the fourth for Ridge.
Liberty was hard-pressed to get anything going as long as Tyler Bordash was in command. Liberty managed just one hit off of Bordash, who allowed one earned run, walked four and struck out five during his seven innings.
Judd finished 3-for-4 with a run and RBI for the Bolts. James, Salcedo and Frese each had two hits.
The win was the third in a row for the Bolts (5-1), who take on Osceola in a district game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
