Lake Howell Rallies In The Sixth To Beat Lyman

Lake Howell hosted the Lyman Greyhounds on Wednesday night in a game where the starting pitching dominated, making offense truly hard to come by. The Greyhounds got on the board first but a sixth-inning rally secured the 3-1 victory for Lake Howell.

Much of Lake Howells early offensive struggles was due to the dominant pitching from Greyhounds starter Cayman Emmett. Emmett threw 73 pitches over five innings and allowed just four base runners, two hits and two walks before surrendering the ball for the decisive sixth inning. Lake Howell (0-0) countered Emmett with Berggren who threw an equally impressive game. Berggren lasted six innings, holding the Greyhounds (0-0) to five hits and just run. That one run came off the bat of Joey St. Pierre, who with two outs in the inning sent the first pitch he saw deep into center-field for the homerun, breaking the 0-0 tie.

Down 1-0 heading into the bottom half of the sixth, Lake Howells bats started to heat up once Emmett left the game. Cortes reached first with a single to right field to begin the rally. The Greyhounds pitcher walked the next batter before getting the second out of the inning. With two on and two down in the sixth, Levenson took a swing at a 1-1 pitch and sent a hard shot into left field, scoring teammate Green to tie the game. Bermudez then doubled to right-field, scoring Levenson and Carrion to take the lead 3-1 entering the seventh.

Gorgone came in for Lake Howell in the seventh to close out the game and he did just that. Gorgone retired all three batters that he face, striking out one and only throwing eight pitches to secure the victory.
