Allen Throws Complete Game In St. Cloud Win Over Freedom
Sam Allen had a tall task on Wednesday afternoon for St. Cloud. The Bulldog was sent to the mound in the 2016 opener, and he did not disappoint. Allen through a complete game, holding Freedom to one earned run, while giving up three hits and striking out seven.
The Bulldogs offense did not do much on this day either, but the two runs they scratched out were enough as they defeated Freedom 2-1.
Fausto Lopez was the hitting catalyst for the Bulldogs. In the first, Lopez led off the game with a walk. He promptly stole second, and then a wild pitch advanced him to third. Johnny Fritz then drove home Lopez with an RBI single. The inning may have been bigger for the Bulldogs, but Fritz was caught stealing, and a two runner threat was thwarted by Freedom.
After Freedom tied the score in the fourth, Lopez again started a rally for the Bulldogs when he reached on an error. An Alejandro Garcia single put runners on first and second with no out. Fritz then reached on a fielders choice, and Lopez ended up scoring what would become the winning run.
St. Cloud will take their 1-0 record into a home game Friday versus Evans.
