Lake Highlands Prep Throws Second Consecutive Shutout
The Lake Highglands Prep Highlanders have come out of the gate doing everything a well-oiled machine should be doing. The Highlanders are playing strong defense, pitching well, and swinging the bats with ease. On Wednesday, for the second straight game, Lake Highlands threw a shutout, and matched their opening day victory score of 14-0.
Cornerstone Charter Academy had trouble with Highlanders starting pitcher Will Saxton the entire day. Saxton threw a no-hitter, striking out 11 batters and walking one.
While Saxton was taking care of business on the mound, the Lake Highland Prep offense was doing their job at the plate.
Jaylen Townsend opened the scoring in the first with a lead-off double. He promptly stole third, and scored on a Joe Cosgrove groundout.
It was the third inning, however, where the offense blew the game open. Townsend again got things started with a single. After a Cosgrove goundout, Saxton blasted a home run to deep right-center.
After a line out to left, Ryan Demaree was hit by a pitch. Max Clark singled, and Matt Morgan launched a three-run homer.
Lake Highlands added two runs in the fourth, and put the game, and the no-hitter, away in the fifth. Cosgrove, Clark, and Neil Patel had singles in the frame, while Morgan contributed a double. By the end of the inning, six runs had come across.
The Highlanders will now take a 2-0 record into the second week of the season.
