Lake Mary Prep Edges The Master’s Academy In The 10th
A walk-off single from Jared Harden scored Nick Lakso for the winning run to give Lake Mary Prep a 9-8 win over The Master’s Academy in a 3A-3 game Tuesday.
Lasko singled to right field to score Andy Allison to tie it at 8 before coming home on Harden’s hit.
The Eagles had an 8-7 lead in the top of the 10th. With two outs, Cole Iturrioz walked and went to second when Damian Mercado reached on a base-on-balls. Ben Chestnut singled to score Iturrioz.
Masters Academy tied it at 7 in the top of the seventh. JP Jordan and Iturrioz walked to lead off the inning. Mercado foul-tipped the ball for an out before Chestnut walked to load the bases. After a strikeout, Caeser Barry was hit by a pitch, scoring Jordan. A strikeout ended the top of the inning.
Jared Harden singled and advanced to second on Cody Cabral’s sacrifice, but two consecutive groundouts sent the game into extras.
Andrew Kaminsky’s groundout scored Jakobi Bonner to give Master’s a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
The Griffins came roaring back with six runs in the bottom of the second. An error and RBI singles by Conner Whan and Evan Wong made it 3-1. Another error and a two-run single by David Litchfield put Lake Mary Prep up 6-1.
Undaunted, the Eagles put up three in fourth and two in the fifth to get the score to 7-6 after Lake Mary Prep added a run in the bottom of the fourth. Mercado’s groundout and Chestnut’s two-run double keyed the fourth inning surge for Masters, and an error and Mercado’s RBI single produced the runs in the fifth.
The teams combined for 21 hits and 10 pitchers in the district battle, which left the Griffins at the top of the district at 1-0. The Eagles are in fourth place at 2-1.
