Trinity Prep Completes Sweep Of Father Lopez
The Trinity Prep Saints hosted the Father Lopez Green Waves on Monday night and came up with a 2-0 victory. On Thursay, the two teams met again, this time at Father Lopez, but the results were not much different. Once again the Saints came away as winners, racking up 11 hits in an 8-0 shutout of their district rivals.
Jared Herron made the start for Trinity, and it was a good one. Through six innings of work he allowed only one hit, a lead-off single by Austin Gonzalez. He completely shut down the Green Waves the rest of the way, tallying nine strike outs against two walks.
Herron staked himself to an early lead before he even took to the mound. After a lead-off walk was erased by a double play, Herron jacked a solo home run over the left field fence in the first. That was followed by a double into left field by Ethan Groff and an RBI single by Andrew Roberts for a 2-0 lead.
The Saints added to the lead with two more runs in the second, and RBIs by Herron and Jacob Mandel paved the way for a three-run third to run the lead to 7-0.
A sacrifice fly by Chris Schuttler brought Roberts home to finalize the scoring in the fourth.
