University Takes Advantage Of Opportunities To Top Deltona
University took advantage of opportunities in every inning Monday to earn an 11-0 win over Deltona.
The Titans (3-0) came out swinging and scored twice in the bottom of the first. Quenell Rutledge and Cody Vandehey opened with back-to-back singles before Logan Allen reached on an error to load the bases. Michael Harkcom came up and smacked a sacrifice fly to center that brought in Rutledge. Two batters later, Jacob Molle singled to score Allen to make it 2-0.
After two groundouts and a strikeout in the top of the second, the Titans added two runs. Cody Collins walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Nathan Peden. Rutledge doubled to left, scoring Collins. Allen then singled to left to bring in Rutledge for the 4-0 advantage.
After another 1-2-3 top of the third with Dylan Stevens in command on the mound, the Titans padded their lead with four runs to make it 8-0 and just two runs from making it an early game. Dixon and Molle led off with back-to-back singles before Jackson Roberts reached on a bunt. Collins’ line-drive single to left brought in Dixon before Peden hit a base hit to bring in Molle. Rutledge’s sacrifice fly allowed Roberts to come home, and Vandehey smacked a sacrifice fly of his own to score Collins.
Deltona threatened in the top of the fourth as two players advanced on walks, but a strikeout and groundout quelled the threat.
In the bottom of the fourth, Molle hit a sacrifice fly to score Allen, and Roberts tripled home Harkcom.
Stevens gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out three during his four innings of work to earn the win. Rutledge finished 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, and Allen went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Dixon was 2-for-2 with two runs, and Molle 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run.
