West Orange Rolls To Victory Over Westminster Academy
The West Orange Warriors rolled to a 10-0 victory over Westminster Academy Friday night behind great hitting and lights out pitching in this non-district bout. Westminster had no answer for the Warriors pitching as it posted its third shutout of this young season.
After being held without a run in the first inning, the Warriors (4-1) got going in a big way in the bottom of the second. A double by sophomore outfielder Doug Nikhazy to right field got the Warriors on the board first when Ethan Jones and Deandre Shelton crossed the plate to make it 2-0. The very next batter, senior Tyler Baum, doubled to center field bringing home Nikhazy for the third run of the inning. A two-run homerun by Kole Enright added to the lead before the inning was over.
The Warriors added to their lead in the bottom of the third when Roberto Guillen hit a two-run double to center field to grow the lead to seven. The Warriors added one more run in the third and two in the bottom of the fifth to hold a 10-0 lead.
Although they scored 10 runs, all the Warriors needed was one as Tyler Baum was outstanding on the mound. Baum threw 68 pitches over five innings of work allowing just two hits and striking out 10 batters. Junior Ben Good came in for the fifth and final inning to close out the game. Good struck out a batter and got two others to groundout in a 10 pitch performance.
West Orange looks for their fifth win of the season next Wednesday when they host Lake Minneola in a non-district match up.
