Bishop Moore Shuts Out Colonial
Quinton Martinez held the Colonial Grenadiers to two hits while hanging five zeros to lead the Bishop Moore Hornets to a 5-0 win on Tuesday night.
The Hornets needed all five of those scoreless innings from their starter as Martinez’s mound opponent, Jarrin Sweeny, matched him every step of the way through the first four frames. Sweeny gave up just two hits before the Hornets finally got to him in the fifth and scored all five of their runs, although only one was earned.
After a base-on-balls by Josh Bates began the inning, Justin Moran, who had doubled in the second, reached on an error. Another Colonial miscue loaded the bases with Hornets and Simon Sorvillo capitalized by hitting a hard ground ball into center field for a two-run single. Gabe Scavone topped off the inning with a double that plated the fourth and fifth runs of the inning.
Chris Brock relieved Martinez and completed the shutout by throwing nearly 70% of his pitches for strikes. He put an exclamation point on his two innings of work by striking out the side in order in the seventh, catching all three batters looking.
