Bishop Moore Walks Off Cardinal Gibbons In 8th Inning
Even after giving up a pair of runs to start extra innings, host Bishop Moore refused to quit. The Hornets rallied for three runs in their final at bats to walk-off 7-6 over Cardinal Gibbons on Wednesday afternoon in the Catholic Challenge Tournament. Kyle Mock’s two-RBI single brought in Connor Scheitzach before Rigsby Mosley also scored for the deciding run.
Bobby Spitulski collected his third hit on a 3-for-3 day to start the bottom of the eighth. A pair of flyouts followed to leave the Hornets (11-8) down to their final out. Scheitzach and Mosley both singled, with Spitulski coming around to score on Mosley’s base hit. Justin Moran then worked his second walk of the day to bring up Mock, who smacked his second hit of the day to end it.
Bishop Moore was tenacious throughout, overcoming a 4-1 deficit by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Parker Thompson had a two-RBI single to score Spitulski and Josh Bates, before Gabe Scavone worked a bases-loaded walk to push across Thompson and set the stage for the dramatic conclusion.
Chris Brock earned the win with two solid relief innings in which he struck out five. Mikey Giordano delivered a strong start by striking out eight in six innings.
Bishop Moore next faces Marion Catholic, Illinois, in tournament action on Thursday.
