Cornerstone Charter Breezes Past Faith Christian
The Ducks of Cornerstone Charter Academy defeated the Faith Christian Academy Lions by a score of 9-4 on Wednesday.
The Ducks broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when Tommy Peyton drew a lead-off walk and later scored when a batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The Lions roared back in the bottom of the frame. Bringing all nine batters to the plate, they loaded the bases and scored on a couple of walks, a fielder’s choice, an error and an RBI groundout to pull ahead 4-1.
The fifth inning proved decisive for the Ducks. They scored five run and took the lead for good. Like the Lions before them, they brought all nine of their batters to the plate. Chandler Beard scored on a wild pitch after being hit by a pitch in his at-bat. Jacob Maddox drew a walk and scored on and error while Jack Dixon reached on the same error and later stole home for the fifth run of the inning.
It was the first of Dixon’s two runs on the night as he enjoyed a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI. His double in the sixth plated Tyler Mihelich and Dixon scored the second run of the inning himself when he was batted in by Frankie, giving the Ducks a 8-4 advantage.
Maddox drove in Beard with a single in the final frame to cap off the scoring.
Pitching four and a third innings of relief, John Nelson shut the Lions down after their big fourth inning, holding them without a hit while punching out six.
