DeLand Shuts Down New Smyrna Beach
The game was shortened to five innings due to weather, but David McLeod pitched all of them for the DeLand Bulldogs and led his team to a 2-0 win against New Smyrna Beach on Thursday night.
After giving up a lead-off single to Kristian Mattern in the bottom of the first, McLeod was all but untouchable the rest of the way. He allowed just one more hit, a fourth-inning single by Kirk Mattern, and walked two, but made up for it by striking out five and hanging nothing but zeros on the scoreboard.
Austin Huber gave McLeod all the run support he would need by leading off the second inning with a solo shot over the left-field fence. For insurance purposes, Matthew Sadlon doubled in the third then scored on a single by Ben Rowdon.
The Bulldogs have now won two straight since battling to a stalemate with the district-leading University Titans last Friday, and are primed for another district 9A-2 showdown against Lyman Friday night.
