University Titans Need Extras To Get Past Seabreeze
The University Titans kept their perfect season alive by beating Seabreeze 5-1 on Thursday night, but it took a little longer than expected.
For seven innings, the visiting Titans had their hands full with the Hippodeas, battling to a 1-1 stalemate. Through those first seven innings, Seabreeze starter Sam Marlatt rung up 13 Titan batters and scattered three hits, the most costly being an RBI double to Jackson Roberts in the second.
Marlatt’s opposite number, Tino Kourounis, may not have tallied the same strikeout numbers, but he kept pace with him where it mattered most: on the scoreboard. Kourounis held Seabreeze scoreless until Marlatt helped his own cause by smacking an RBI single in the sixth.
A quick seventh frame for both teams gave way to extra innings and the Titans finally made their move. A one-out walk by Cody Collins was followed by a Quenell Rutledge double and another free pass, loading the bases for Logan Allen, who was hit by a pitch to break the tie. That was in turn followed by a two-run double by Jacob Molle and a run-scoring single by Michael Harkcom, giving the Titans a 5-1 lead that would not be overcome.
