Lake Nona Tallies Eight In The Fourth And Cruise Past St. Cloud
Two of the top teams of 8A-10 squared off Wednesday when the St. Cloud Bulldogs traveled to face the Lake Nona Lions. The Bulldogs held a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning, but an eight run outburst by the Lions in the bottom of the fourth carried them to a 12-2 district victory.
The Bulldogs (13-6, 3-1) held a 2-1 lead after the third inning. Alejandro Garcia scored the first run for the Bulldogs in the first when he came home on a sacrifice from Ty Hoyle. An error on the Lions infield allowed Fausto Lopez to score the second run of the game.
Right-handed pitcher Robin Allen took to the mound for the Lions (13-8, 3-2) and settled down nicely after allowing two runs. Allen went the distance for the Lions, throwing 111 pitches over six innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out nine.
Down by one in the bottom of the fourth, the Lions bats awoke to take a commanding lead. A bunt single from Michael Dunn allowed Edgar Brito to score to tie the game. Manuel Morejo scored the go-ahead run on a single to right field from Fabrizio Moro. Morejo closed out the scoring later in the inning with a double to left field that brought home Soto and Kevin Jimenez to bring the score to 9-2 in favor of the Lions.
The Bulldogs only managed one more base runner for the remainder of the game. The Lions padded their lead first on an RBI double from Jimenez in the fifth and then a double from Steven Molina scored Brito and Soto in the sixth and the Lions held on to win 12-2 against their district rival.
