McDuffie Leads Lake Brantley Over Lake Mary
In a pitcher’s duel that saw both offenses struggle to get anything going, Lake Brantley junior Josh McDuffie pitched 6.1 innings of one-run ball and came away with his third win of the season in a 2-1 victory over the Lake Mary Rams. Striking out three but only walking one, McDuffie recorded first-pitch strikes to 19 of the 27 Rams that came to the plate against him.
Though opportunities were slim thanks to fantastic pitching on both sides, the Patriots supported McDuffie with a two-run showing in the third inning. Connor Kouwenhoven led things off with a single and advanced to second when Jay Charleston walked, with both runners then moving over on an intended sac bunt from Harrison Ray that managed to go for a hit.
After a strikeout, Paxton Rigby singled on a 1-1 pitch to score Kouwhenhoven and tie the game. Charleston then scored with two outs on a passed ball to give the Patriots a lead they would not give up.
Opposing McDuffie and pitching an excellent game in his own right was Todd Peterson, who struck out 10 in six innings and allowed only five hits in the loss. Peterson, who allowed just one earned run, kept his team in the game all night long and worked around a rough third inning that saw the Patriots score their lone two runs against him. John Benevolent recorded the team’s only RBI with a first inning double to score Jonathen Burkett, who had his own double earlier in the inning. John Radetsky also had two hits on the night including a fourth inning double.
