Nikhazy, West Orange Continue Dominance With 8-1 Win
When a team enters a game with an 18-2 record and has been dominant all year long, you can afford to play it safe and being content with the goal remaining to win it all. West Orange manager Jesse Marlo has his team playing every game like it’s their last, however, as the Warriors came out firing and did everything right in an 8-1 victory over the Olympia Titans on Wednesday night.
It only made sense that things started at the top for the Warriors as the team’s one and two hitters, Kole Enright and Bobby Head, combined for five hits and three RBIs in the win. Roberto Guillen also hit a home run from the seven spot in the lineup as seven of the team’s nine starters recorded base hits on Wednesday night. The offense scored in every inning from the second through the sixth
When he wasn’t going 1-3 at the plate with an RBI, Doug Nikhazy was pitching four innings of scoreless relief and striking out five to come away with the win. Throwing 71% of his 58 pitches for strikes, Nikhazy threw first-pitch strikes to ten of the fourteen men who came to the plate against him en route to winning his second game of the year. Nikhazy relieved Tyler Baum who threw three innings of one-run ball and didn’t walk a single opposing hitter.
Taking the mound for the Titans was Aaron Bogovic, who pitched four innings before departing and turning the ball over to the bullpen. Zach Mishriki drove in the team’s lone run with a second-inning RBI single.
