Olympia Advances With Win Over Wekiva
The Olympia Titan’s Jordan Morrow was a titan at the plate on Monday afternoon, racking up two doubles and four RBIs, while going 3-for-4 in his team’s 6-3 victory against the Wekiva Mustangs.
The win puts Olympia in the thick of the 9A-3 playoffs, with a semifinal contest against the region’s top-ranked team, West Orange, scheduled for Wednesday.
Batting in the two-hole, Morrow showed how dangerous he could be in his first at-bat of the game. Behind 1-2 in the count, the third baseman ripped a double down the left-field line to drive in leadoff man Drenis Ozuna and stake the Titans to an early 1-0 lead. Two innings later he did the exact same thing, but this time Jonathan Levin followed up with a double of his own, making the lead 3-0.
The Titans tacked on three more in the fourth inning, with Ozuna tallying his third run of the night in the process.
The Mustangs scored all three of their runs in the top of the third inning. A hit batter and an error set Alan McDonald up for a two-run single. McDonald later scored the third run on a miscue by the Titan defense.
Taking the hill with one out in the third, Jaret Vargo was sensational in relief for Olympia. He set down all 13 batters that he faced without allowing a hit or free pass, piling up six strikeouts along the way.
