Winter Park Rallies To Beat Timber Creek
Winter Park rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to outlast Timber Creek 4-3 on Wednesday in a 9A-6 semifinal. The Wildcats advance to Friday’s championship, where they’ll play either University or Oviedo.
With Winter Park down 3-2, Matt Garcia and Nick Noel led off with singles to open the bottom of the sixth. Wade Cuda reached on a bunt to load the bases for Angel Fernandez, who singled to score Garcia to tie it at 3-3. Cuda then scored on Jaison Heard’s sacrifice fly. Fernandez amassed three RBIs on three hits and Noel went 3-for-3.
Mamudoski scored on an error in the fourth to tie it at 2-2. Timber Creek went up 3-2 in the top of the fifth. Bret Neilan walked before Nik Allen and Zak Sousa singled. Isa Mamudoski grounded out, scoring Allen.
Timber Creek jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as Mamudoski doubled and scored on an error. Fernandez’s double scored Garcia and Noel to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead in the top of the second.
Garcia earned the win as he held Timber Creek hitless over one and two-thirds innings, walking none and striking out three.
