Olympia Walks Off 2-1 Over Wekiva In Eight Innings

The Olympia Titans rallied late to avoid an upset, walking off with a 2-1 victory over Wekiva on Monday afternoon in a 9A-3 quarterfinal. Jeslyn Whitehead drove in Jaxon Bambei with an RBI single to the shortstop in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Olympia to victory.

The Titans (15-10) will now face #1 seed West Orange in a district semifinal on Wednesday.

Whitehead also tossed a complete-game gem for Olympia, going eight full innings on only 94 total pitches. Whitehead struck out seven while allowing four hits and three walks, surrendering his only run of the game when Ben Williams scored on an RBI ground out from Vonte Mobley in the top of the fourth.

Wekiva’s Brendan Greenwood also had a quality start, holding the rope to maintain the lead into the seventh. Greenwood had six strikeouts while allowing five hits and two walks.

Down to their final out in the bottom of the seventh, Keniel Deleon delivered for the Titans with an RBI double to center field that drove in Preston Goodbar to even things up.
