Four Corners Wins Sunshine State 5A Conference Tourney
The Four Corners Coyotes have proven that they show up in the big moments. This past weekend the team swept its way to claim the title of the 5A Sunshine State Conference Tournament. It is the second tournament championship already this season for the Coyotes, who also won the Thunder Classic Spring Break tournament at Lake Region in March..
Including its most recent victory over the Cornerstone Charter Ducks, Four Corners is now 10-10 on the season and has won four straight games. In the weekend tournament held at the historic Sanford Stadium, Four Corners earned a 15-5 win over the Geneva Knights to reach the finale, where the Coyotes then blanked the Duval Charter Panthers for a 10-0 shutout.
Cameron Morgan delivered a complete-game shutout on the mound to earn the win in the title game. Morgan allowed three hits and did not walk any batters, and he struck out three.
The offense wasted no time in putting up some runs in support of their pitcher, as Four Corners jumped out for all the runs it ultimately needed with a three-run first inning. The Coyotes then blew the game open with a five-run third inning, and two more runs in the fifth finished things off and ended it early via the mercy rule.
Several Coyotes collected multiple hits to contribute to the big offensive day. Ronald Rivera led the way by going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs, and Jadiel Quinones was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run. Alexis Quinones went 2-for-2 with a walk and a run, and Yanzel Medina was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.
Some of those hot bats carried over from the semifinal win. Rivera also led the team in that game by going 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and two runs, and Alexis Quinones was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run.
